Behind the scenes for all things City of Yorktown is this week’s Neighbor Spotlight, City Administrator John Barth.

A little over three years in the position, Barth has continued to make strides for the City of Yorktown, and looks to keep the progress moving forward.

“It really wasn’t a plan [to come back home], it was just an opportunity– I’m from here, and being able to come back is unique and will be something that I will always remember,” said Barth. “I’m always proud to say I’m from Yorktown, Texas.”

During his time as City Administrator, Barth has worked to keep the city up-to-date, along with establishing goals for the city alongside staff and council members.

“Financial stability for the city, I think,” said Barth when asked about his proudest accomplishment. “I did a lot of budget cuts across the board–from my library to water, which cuts public services, but it was required. Financial stability–we are on such a great path now, and really the city is just getting started as far as what they have now and what we have planned for the future. We are in a really good spot, so it’s going to be exciting to see.”

Along with working to get the City of Yorktown onto a better financial path, Barth and city officials have worked to obtain funding to work on Yorktown’s infrastructure.

“We’ve done a lot as far as infrastructure upgrades. We’ve updated the infrastructure from the utilities to the water to the sewer lines to the pump house,” stated Barth.

It may not all be glamorous, but these infrastructure items keep the City of Yorktown moving right along, and Barth doesn’t plan to stop there.
