The Cuero Public Library has recently welcomed a new librarian, Katelynn Meitzen. This is not Meitzen’s first time working at the library, however, as she worked as the assistant librarian previously.

“I actually worked here previously for almost five years,” Meitzen explained. “I ended up at the police department and worked as the secretary for almost two years there, then the position opened up here. I applied because it was something that I strived for when I was the assistant here and luckily I got the job.”

“I went to school here, graduated here, worked here since I was about 15. When I first started working here, I just liked it. I liked helping the kids out, that was one of my biggest things. Getting kids to read is definitely our biggest thing and during the summer of course we had a lot more kids here, I think that’s what really drew me in. After that, I was like, you know, I would like to one day be able to run this place myself.”

The majority of Meitzen’s library education came from working under the previous librarian, but she still plans to attend college.

“I had planned on going to college, and it was actually for graphic design, but unfortunately it just fell through. And I still actually plan on going to college, I just have a little one right now, so it’s not in the works for sure. But I do plan on getting higher education, both to benefit myself and to benefit the library because there are some things I’m sure I don’t know, so I plan on exploring more things and trying to bring more stuff here to our library to make it more popular, make more people want to come to the library and utilize all our materials.”
