Four-way stop signs have recently been put up at the intersection of Highway 72 and Riedel in Yorktown as the stop light is being worked on.

“TxDot purchased approximately 30 feet of right of way from the city of Yorktown in the southeast corner of the library parking lot,” Yorktown Mayor Bill Baker explained. “Their intention is to set the poles farther back and add new traffic lights at that time. There are continual issues with both the poles and the traffic light at this intersection, primarily due to the large oil field trucks that pass through town. It is my understanding that TxDot is trying to accommodate the large truck traffic.

“It is my understanding this same process will take place at the intersection of State Highway 72 and State Highway 119 (at the Dairy Queen area),” Baker added. “I know TxDot acquired additional right of way at that location as well.”

Drivers are urged to take extra caution at the intersection until construction is complete. Work is expected to be finished within four to six weeks.
