Nordheim grass fire burns close to 500 acres

On Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 2:50 p.m. local fire departments received a call about a grass fire on Noe Hinojosa Rd. about half a mile from FM 627.  The exact amount of damage is not known, but it is estimated that up to 500 acres of grass were burned.  The cause of the fire is not known at this time.  A burn ban is in effect currently, restricting outdoor burning in an attempt to prevent wildfires. The Nordheim, Yorktown, Runge, Karnes City, Gilette, and Falls City fire departments were present.
