Haley Baumann, Nordheim’s class of 2022 salutatorian, has gone through some difficult times to get where she is today, and getting through those times is one of her proudest achievements.

“I came to Nordheim in like eighth grade,” Baumann explained, “and then I was really shy. I had a lot of anxiety and was going through a lot of stuff at home. By my ninth grade year, I was worse, anxiety and more depression. Around the end of my ninth-grade year, I ended up being hospitalized and getting help for my mental health. Before that, I was really struggling, I didn’t do any sports at all or any school activities. After I ended up getting help, I came back and started doing track and volleyball and FFA and tennis, I started doing a lot more stuff. I think that was my biggest achievement, being able to reach out and get help. Being able to see my full self, or reach my full self through my high school years. If I hadn’t gotten help, I probably would’ve failed, or not graduated, honestly.”
