Potential land purchase "could be beneficial" for Yorktown ISD
By Allison Flores
Talk of land for sale by John Golden on the corner of Highway 119 and Main Street in Yorktown took precidence over YISD’s Monday monthly meeting. Golden addressed the Board during the public comment section, stating multiple points regarding the potential opportunity the real estate would have for the district.
“I think it would be a smart real estate investment for the school district to purchase the piece of real estate for various reasons,” said Golden to the Board.
The property owner noted that with the recent campus renovations, it may be in the school district’s good interest to purchase the property to ensure child safety along the highway, along with adding potential parking space once the building on the corner, a former restaurant, would be torn down. When the topic came back up on the agenda in the superintendent’s report, Kuenstler noted that the idea of purchase could be beneficial.
“I do believe that anytime you can purchase land that is continugous to your school district’s land, if that is within your vision, that is always a good idea,” stated Kuenstler during the meeting.
