The Cuero Record

This past Saturday evening in downtown Cuero “Rally with Ruby” was held. Adults and kiddos lined the street to see which turkey would trot the fastest and be named the new Ruby Begonia to take on Worthington’s Paycheck in this year’s quest to be named the “Turkey Capital of the World”.

Three turkeys were raced, one at a time, by Turkeyfest race team members. The first feathery fowl was slow and steady, but too slow as it turned out. The second turkey attempted to take flight several times and after finding the end of the race and met with a line of people, this bird quickly ran to the side jetting underneath KB’s bbq truck and then a pickup truck. The race team with help from community members were able to get the crazy-winged bird back under control. The last bird of the evening was no amateur, being the winner of 2021 Ruby Selection Day and going on to win last year and beating Paycheck.

Only one Ruby Begonia can be chosen to represent Cuero during both heats of the Great Gobbler Gallop.
