Initially set on going to law school, Stephen Wagner has now found himself in the world of journalism. The 2017 graduate of Yorktown High School received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin on May 22. From there, his experience in reporting on sports while in college could take him across the nation.

The crazy thing is journalism kind of found Wagner while at UT.

After graduating from Yorktown High School, former Yorktown ISD athletic director Ty Robinson asked him about his interest in sports at the college level.

“I ended up being a football videographer,” Wagner said. “I would go to practice and travel with team to games.”

Wagner also met a friend at UT who worked for the school’s newspaper, The Daily Texan, who encouraged him to interview for a position.

“He convinced me to interview for the newspaper, and they brought me on as a sportswriter,” Wagner recalled. “One thing led to another, and I covered UT football, basketball and baseball.”
