Rebecca Cox to compete at National Finals Rodeo in Vegas

To paraphrase the song by Chris LeDoux, “And she’ll rodeo from Cheyenne to Texas, dreamin’ of one ride in Vegas. One ride in Vegas.”
Cuero’s Rebecca Cox doesn’t have just one ride in Vegas, she has three.
Cox, at 14 years old, is one to watch on the rodeo circuit--not just now, but in the future as well. And she’s been rodeoing since the age of two.
“I’ve always had a dream to qualify for Vegas. This year we’ve been working hard, and it finally happened.”
A typical year for the young woman means competing in over 150 rodeos around the country. Cox said, “I’m homeschooled just so I can rodeo.”
The Youth National Finals Rodeo takes place at the same time as the National Finals Rodeo does, but in a different location in Las Vegas, The World Market Center. Rebecca will compete in the 15 and Under Breakaway Roping, as well as the 19 and Under Breakaway Roping events, plus the 15 and Under Goat Tying event.
“At first, I was just trying to qualify in one event (at YNFR), but once I got my first qualification, all the nerves had went away about getting to Vegas, and then I just kept qualifying. I qualified three times in less than a month.”
Cox continues, “Most people think that when you get to rodeo, it’s just fun and games, but you hang out with your friends for a little while and then you have to just ‘get in the zone.’ You have to focus in. I watch my stock before I go; I have to warm up my horse; I have to warm up my whole body, and then it’s ‘go time.’”
