Reese submits letter of resignation to county commissioners

DeWitt County Commissions Court received a letter of resignation from County Attorney Ray Reese at their meeting Monday morning. Reese plans to retire in June after 25 years of service. Court members also heard additional information on possibly building an a new airport near Cuero.
This is the time of year for the court to receive its annual outside audit of the county’s financial position.
“The time has come,” said County Attorney Reese as he announced plans to retire.
He said his retirement would be effective June 28 which will give the county just over three months to appoint a replacement. Reese reviewed his career telling the court his office has had over 13,000 adult and over 11,000 juvenile hearings.
The office has collected over $3.4 million in fines and over $2 million in hot checks collections.
He also noted in those 25 years he had never had an opponent.
