For the first time since 2015, Nordheim High School will have an athlete at the UIL state track & field championships. After narrowly missing qualifying as a freshman and losing last season because of covid, Danielle Wilson will compete at the state meet this Saturday, May 8 at the University of Texas at Austin’s Mike A. Myers Stadium.
County audit turns up over $16K in OEM funds not deposited
Findings from a recent audit conducted by the DeWitt County Auditor’s office on the office of emergency management, flood plain, LEPC and safety were presented at Monday’s meeting of the DeWitt County Commissioners Court. The report stated that all 22 monthly deposit reports were inaccurate and contained false information. Forty-eight of the 186 receipts reviewed had exceptions with regards to charges. It also noted that the county charges $250 for engineering services, but on most Hanson Engineering invoices more than $250 was charged.

“Two years ago, we did a road march,” Valerie said. “There’s a retreat center in Rockport that would do retreats for veterans, and so we went over there, and we joined them, and that’s where we got that idea, the 22-mile road march.”
Two stolen vehicles used in pursuits believed to be human smuggling attempts
Two bailouts in the same number of days occurred in DeWitt County last week in what are believed to be human smuggling attempts.
The first happened around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17 when a DeWitt County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado for a traffic violation. The truck failed to stop and a pursuit began in the area of Bursch Road outside of Yorktown.
‘Really incredible experience’: Yorktown grad goes from playing high school sports to covering major college-level sports
Initially set on going to law school, Stephen Wagner has now found himself in the world of journalism. The 2017 graduate of Yorktown High School received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin on May 22. From there, his experience in reporting on sports while in college could take him across the nation.
