On Wednesday, March 16, DeWitt County Sheriff’s dispatch received a call about a suspicious male walking around property on Fordtran Road in Thomaston. “This happened as we have been investigating a series of burglaries that have occurred in the Thomaston area,” DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen said.

Through investigations, the male was identified as Jacob Edward Lugar, 31, of Cuero.

Law enforcement was able to recover fishing poles, ammunition, firearms and tools as well as other items that had been reported stolen at the suspect's property. “There is also property that has not been identified. Investigators are checking with other area law enforcement agencies to see if they have had any of the items reported stolen,” stated Bowen.

“I would like the thank the citizens of Thomaston for their information and assistance in making this string of burglaries come to an end,” Bowen added.

Lugar was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building, Unlawful Use of Criminal Instrument, Criminal Trespass with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Marijuana, Theft of a Firearm and Tampering with Evidence.
