Solar proposal plans to target DeWitt County

This past week the Cuero Independent School District’s board of education held their monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 17. The board kicked the meeting off with recognition of the Texas Academic Performance Report for 2020-2021. The report summarized statistics on 2021 STARR performance, attendance, dropout rates and graduation rates. The four-year grad rate for Cuero ISD exceeded the state, (90.3%), and region, (92%) with a 98.7%. The five-year grad rate exceeded state and region percentages, as well, and was 100%. College-ready numbers for the 2019-20 year exceeded state, (63%), and region,(57.4%), coming in at 91%. Total enrollment through all school levels for 2019-20, 1,904.

Next, the board opened for public comments and adjourned a public meeting. Light Source BP, opened with introducing their mission about a specific solar project in southern Dewitt county. “It does look like southern Cuero ISD might become the solar capital of South Texas, we will see,” a Light Source BP speaker mentioned. Two, 200 Mega-Watt, projects with a 180 million dollar total investment were presented and discussed. Shaula Energy plans to start construction March 2023 if everything progresses. The board moved to accept an application to review and submit to the comptroller of public accounts.

During the Administration Communication Reports, it was reported that the football field is a couple weeks behind due to weather, and equipment breakdown. The estimated time for completion is March 4, just in time for Jack Adcock Relays.
