Although the in-person Denim and Diamonds Gala has been canceled, organizers of the fundraising event are persevering in hopes of benefiting Yorktown.
Working to benefit three different organizations, the Yorktown Historical Society, Friends of the Yorktown Public Library, and Keep Yorktown Beautiful, the Gala’s silent auction has been moved to online bidding, and a raffle has been organized.
The first of its kind, Gala organizers evolved with the circumstances to continue to provide support to the three organizations. Donna Roeder, Penny Sievers, Miranda Arguellez, Sarah Bargmann, and Erin Koopman stopped by the News-View office to provide more details about the event.
“We had to get very creative,” exclaimed Roeder, “We had to think way outside the box.”
Making way for a sort of hybrid-fund raiser, the online auction opens the Gala up to a new audience.
“The online auction may be a neat way for people who don’t live in Yorktown anymore but still have connections and want to support the organizations–so now they are able to participate,” stated Koopman.
“It was very heavy on our hearts that we weren’t going to be able to have it the way that we had planned,” said Koopman.
“But, because of the support that we received from ticket and table buyers beforehand–we are able to still continue in some sort of way.”
Those who purchased tickets for the event have automatically been entered into the raffle that will take place.
