This past Thursday, June 7, the DeWitt County Taxpayers League held an open forum meeting, inviting the public to come and air their grievances with the DeWitt County Appraisal District. Roughly 50 community members attended.
While the focus of this particular meeting was hearing out members of the general public on their dissappointment in recent appraisal amounts, a larger scope of the DeWitt County Taxpayers League is to inform the community on how, why, and when to protest their appraisals. Created in 1972, the DCTL has been working hand in hand with local members ever since for common sense appraisals and fairness in the actions of the Texas District when the community has a grievance.
Many of those in attendance spoke out in front of the audience about the substantial increase in their appraised property values. Several spoke of their property’s appraised value doubling in a matter of a few years.
