After a two year hiatus, the Cuero High School UIL Science team is heading to the Regional academic meet on April 13th at the Texas A&M- Corpus Christi campus. This success comes from a pretty fresh team that only formed in October of 2018. UIL Science team sponsor and Science Department Head, Michelle Stanford, noted that the team took 1st place at their District meet in La Vernia, and actually gained the only spot to Regionals out of all the competing teams.
Team members Scott Miller, senior, Jess Stevenson, junior, Brooke Spitzenberger and Brodde Stanford, both freshman, took time out of their studying schedules to answer a few questions.
“It’s been a while since we’ve done a science competition since there wasn’t anything last year,” said Scott Miller, “we just wanted to do it.”
Stanford gave Miller credit for instigating the revival of the UIL team. She explained that Miller came to her over the summer, and suggested that there should be a team again. She and Miller created flyers and advertisements to entice students to join the team.
