Judge Migdalia Lopez of Cameron County visited a rainy Cuero for the first time on Friday, May 3, however, the downpour did not wash away her smile.
“I came over to Cuero to get to know the people because I am running for the Thirteenth Court of Appeals and DeWitt County is in my district,” stated Lopez during a quick interview.
Lopez continued to explain that DeWitt County is one of 20 counties in the Thirteenth Court of Appeals. The court consists of six Justices hearing cases out of Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, Cameron, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Hidalgo, Jackson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Live Oak, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, Wharton, and Willacy Counties.
Lopez was escorted around Cuero by Joe Sheppard, and was impressed with the County Courthouse.
“I love to see old courthouses that are renovated and taken care of,” she said while in the foyer.
She continued on to note her meeting with County Judge Daryl Fowler, “He told me about some of the issues he was facing [and] he explained to me what they had done so far, and what they were working on. I was impressed with the gentlemen.”
Lopez is running in the 2020 election for the Thirteenth Court of Appeals after serving 20 years as a District Judge, 4 years as County Court Judge, and 10 years as an Assistant District Attorney.
