Originally from Victoria, Texas, Jeff “Rooster” Thompson has made his home in DeWitt County and is now seeking a position protecting the people of this county.

With over two decades of law enforcement experience, Thompson has filed as an independent for DeWitt County sheriff. Thompson moved to the east coast for a couple years after high school, where he joined the Army National Guard as an infantryman.

Both of his children, Jeff and Haley, now serve in the Air Force. They are both Cuero High School graduates. Thompson was honorably discharged and later graduated from the Victoria Police Academy and was commissioned with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) in 1995.

Twenty-two years in law enforcement between VCSO, DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office, Cuero Police Department and Yorktown Police Department was spent investigating crimes and in victim assistance.

He holds a master peace officer’s license and was officer of the year in Victoria (2005) and Cuero (2010). In 2005, he received the American Legion award in Victoria.

“All awards were due to pro-activity in catching burglars, narcotics and apprehension of wanted subjects,” Thompson said.
