Two Cuero High School and twelve Cuero Junior High School students participated in this year’s Victoria Art League Spring Youth Art Show.  Hope Cooper won “Best of Show for Junior High” with her Prismacolor drawing “Get Back Here.”

Evelyn Hardy earned first place for 10th-grade painting with her acrylic piece, “Stolen Moments in the Morning” and Leean Leck earned second place for 10th-grade painting with her acrylic piece, “A Morning in May.”

Eighth-grade winners for drawing were all done in Prismacolor, a high-end colored pencil: Heron Sanchez - 2nd place with “DeWitt County Courthouse” and Honorable Mention with “Texas Evening,” Brynna Thomas - 3rd place with “Roping the Sundown,” Kirsten Trevino - Honorable Mention with “Alex and Clare Wofford Hamilton House,” and Madisyn Timpone - Honorable Mention with “Potshots at Texas History.”

Seventh-grade winners for drawing were also done in Prismacolor: Grace Cooper earned 1st Place for 7th grade drawing with her piece, “Just a Few More Steps” and Avery Aguirre earned Honorable Mention for 7th grade drawing with his piece, “Two Friends in a Pen.”

“Our students did an outstanding job in the competition,” stated junior high art teacher, Heather Stewart. “We found out about the competition right before the deadline, so students were limited in the polished pieces that they had available to enter. All of our entries, except the two from high school, went into the drawing categories so all of our eggs were in one basket. Next year we will make plans to have polished pieces to compete in some of the other categories such as 2D and 3D mixed media, photography, painting, and sculpture, as well as drawing.”
