Cuero Regional Hospital staff members were all smiles on Wednesday, April 3 to welcome Sgt. Michael Varela back home from active duty after being deployed to Africa. Varela, along with his wife Kimberly, and three sons,  Nicolas, 12, Aiden, 9, and Eric, 7, were present at the hospital to welcome the licensed paramedic back to work.

The family reunited the previous Saturday, and the kids were thrilled to have their father back home.

“I’m really excited,” said Aiden while eating cake at the party, “I haven’t seen him in a year.”

The boys were happy to talk about their first weekend back together in the San Antonio area after picking up their father.

“We climbed Mount Everest– wait, not Mount Everest, Enchanted Rock,” Aiden exclaimed.
