Wildcats and cookies
By Roger Cowan
Last Wednesday, several members of the Yorktown Wildcats boys basketball team made a visit to the residents of Yorktown Nursing and Rehabilitation. While there, the players spent time visiting with residents and decorating cookies for them. Smiles abounded and the time was greatly enjoyed by all involved.
The brainchild of coaches Jeremy Bailey and Stephen Gowens, the players were more than happy to donate their personal time to bring joy to the residents.
“We wanted to give the boys a chance to give back to the community,” stated Coach Bailey.
Though the Wildcats give their blood, sweat, and tears on the court and the field, they gave their heart and soul off. The residents awaited their arrival Wednesday afternoon with baited breath. The lobby of the facility was packed with residents, and once started, the Wildcats didn’t stop there. They made sure to decorate cookies and deliver them to those who couldn’t come to them in the lobby.
The Yorktown News-View staff would like to applaud the Wildcats and their coaches for such a display of community and giving. The Wildcats truly displayed why Yorktown has such Wildcat Pride.
