Yorktown ISD accountability ratings for the 2021-2022 school year were released last month and the district is pleased with the progress since the last report.

After receiving the results Katherine Kuenstler, former YISD superintendent, recognized what went into the growth by saying, “Our staff worked hard to grow our students academically over the past years. The last time school districts received accountability ratings was in 2019, below is a comparison of YISD’s scores from 2019 to 2022.”

Kuenstler noted that in 2019 the Elementary school score was a 55, that same cohort of students is now at the Jr. High School and the school received a 65. “That is a 10-point jump,” she said.

The administrative team has already begun working with staff to continue the academic growth for students and to continue to improve accountability ratings.

“Our team took a hard look at where our students were falling behind, and that was in reading, said Yorktown Elementary School Principal Laura Patek on the district’s rating. “We made some changes to our curriculum, scheduling, and interventions to accommodate the gaps we needed to fill on our campus.

In our K-2nd grade we added a new phonics program and Early Literacy Groups (ELG’s). In our 3rd-5th grades, we added intentional intervention support in small groups to really hone in on the student needs. As a team, we also shifted our mindset to student data, having them involved in that process, and setting individual student goals.
