YISD culinary class spices things up

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, Yorktown High School’s culinary arts students held a salsa competition.

“In the culinary teaching world, salsa is a common lab at the beginning, especially when they’re working on knife skills and learning to measure ingredients, so that’s what we’re working on,” Cathy Ramos, a culinary arts teacher at YISD, explained.

“The teachers will come in on their lunch break, they’ll taste test it, and then I have a Google form that they will vote on, and they’re voting on consistency, best aroma, best taste, and then best overall.”

Ramos has been a culinary arts teacher for three years, and this is her first year teaching in Yorktown.
