The regular meeting of the YISD Board took place on Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Board secretary Jody Hall called the meeting to order, as President Nelda Sertuche and Vice President Todd Metting were absent. The Pledge of Allegiance was said and a moment of silence taken, then the floor was opened to public comments.

Larry Noel was the first speaker, requesting again that the Board allow homeschool students to participate in UIL activities.

“Again, I just wanted to emphasize that I think it’s a mutually beneficial program where the school increases its pool of talent in band, in academics, and in sports, and it gives homeschoolers opportunities.”

The next speaker was David Styra, talking about upkeep and ease of access around the school.

“Just a couple of things. Mostly housekeeping, but entrance through this door (the side door of the old elementary library), trying to get over a curb with no handicapped access to the building, having the landscaping materials in there. For older people like me who tend to stumble and fall on a pretty regular basis, I would sure appreciate if y’all could give that some consideration. The other thing is our marquee out here. Is it not working? Will it ever work? I’m sure it’s just an oversight, but those are the only two things that I have, so y’all have a good evening.”
