The monthly meeting of the YISD school board took place on Monday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. Public comments were first up, and Gene Henry addressed the board.

“Voters spoke out in the recent school board election, and will again in the future. They didn’t like what they saw, and they especially don’t like not getting to know things. Hopefully, we will start seeing changes made, moving forward, and we insist on it. Since no one asked my input on anything, I’ll give you one anyway, on classroom space. Use this building with the needed upgrades. Classroom space can be coordinated day to day, it’s much cheaper than a new building. This board and all of us don’t even have to meet in here, meet somewhere else. If my opinion is seen as interference in y’all’s problems here, then that is also part of the problem that I speak about.”

Wildcats of the Month were then recognized, along with the boys’ golf team at the state golf tournament and Seely Metting, who is headed to state for pole vaulting. The band was also recognized for placing first division at the Falls City band festival.

Superintendent Kuenstler gave an update on enrollment and announced the preliminary election results, stating that Jeff Sievers, Aaron Koopman and Chris Romans have been elected to the school board. She also informed the board of the upcoming summer garage sale and of the curriculum page for the YISD website.
