The regular meeting of the Yorktown ISD board took place on March 7, starting at 7:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said and a moment of silence taken, then the floor was opened to public comments. The only speaker was Gene Henry.

“Now I’ve heard that we don’t have an in-house high school English teacher, and haven’t for quite a while. This is disturbing because it surely is not a matter of money, I’m sure since our district received an excess of 1.1 million dollars in federal buyer and grant money, since allotments are up to $750,000 for ballfield renovations, then there should be no problem with the appropriate financial incentive to hire a good, in-house English teacher, or any teacher. I think, and I do, field sports are great for the minority of students who participate, but are not more important than hiring teachers to teach the school curriculum.”

The Wildcats of the Month were recognized next, along with the junior high UIL competitors.

Superintendent Kuenstler informed the board of the dates for board training and of recruitment efforts for a new English teacher, then updated the board on student enrollment, which is at 540+ students.
