Yorktown native elected to 290th District Court

Judge Jennifer Peña, formally of Yorktown, was elected Judge of the 290th District Court in San Antonio in November of 2018. Peña credits Yorktown ISD teachers and counselors of whom encouraged her to speak up, and gave her confidence. “I never really thought about college until my counselor Mrs. Kneese encouraged me to apply for a summer college program at the University of Texas-San Antonio,” Peña stated, “I really enjoyed the program and it gave me the confidence I needed to believe that I could be successful in college.” After graduating from Yorktown High School in 1993, Peña attended the University of Texas in Austin, and worked part-time as a juvenile detention officer for Travis County. Peña graduated from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio in 2001. “Despite always questioning myself about whether I belonged, I persisted, and graduated,” explained Peña.
