Courthouse bomb threat hoax being investigated

The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bomb threat they were notified of early last week. An anonymous call came in to DCSO dispatch at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, that an unknown male subject may bring a bomb to the courthouse that day.

Texas leads nation in jobs added

The Lone Star State continues to lead the nation in jobs added with 58,200 new positions in February, bringing the state to nearly 14 million total nonfarm jobs, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. February also marked two full years of uninterrupted job growth in the state.

County Judge inducted as Fellow

DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler has been honored by the Texas Association of Counties’ (TAC) Texas Judicial Academy for going the extra mile. The academy recognizes county judges who attain significant judicial education beyond state requirements as Fellows.

Cuero chosen as stop on Tour of Honor

This year will be the 13th year for the Tour of Honor, a self-directed motorcycle ride that honors American heroes such as military veterans, first responders and American workers, and takes place from Spring until Fall. This year’s tour includes the Roy Benavidez Monument, 900 block of E. Broadway (Hwy 87 South) in Cuero. Born in Cuero in 1935, Master Sargeant Benavidez served in the US Army from 1952-76 and received the Medal of Honor from President Ronald Reagan for his actions in combat near Loc Ninh, S. Vietnam on May 2, 1968 while serving in the US Army Special Forces. In a six hour firefight, Benavidez helped his comrades who were in critical straits despite his own life threatening wounds and to make sure all classified materials had been collected or destroyed.
