Yorktown AD leaving for Scurry Rosser

Coach John David Caffey’s reign as athletic director and head football coach for the Yorktown Wildcats has come to a close after seven seasons of leading Yorktown’s athletic program. He resigned to be athletic director and football coach for 3A, Division II Scurry- Rosser that plays in Region 2, District 7.

Arrest made in county cyber-crime case

Bolanle Augustine Adeosun, 34, a Nigerian national living in Maryland was arrested by law enforcement on Feb. 14. He was transported to Cuero and booked into the DeWitt County Jail on charges of Money Laundering and Forgery, both are First Degree Felonies. He is being held without bail.

Post office issues prompt utility billing change

Yorktown City Council and staff recently took steps to change utility billing methods in response to local post office complications that have persisted for about a year. During the latest city council meeting at Yorktown City Hall, Mayor Bill Baker explained that at least 10 postcards consistently get misplaced on a monthly basis.

Abbott lays out seven top priorities

Gov. Greg Abbott, in a State of the State address last Thursday, outlined his seven top priorities for the ongoing legislative session before an invitation- only audience at a manufacturing facility in San Marcos, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Those priorities include $4 billion for border security, property tax relief and more school choice for parents, which he called “education freedom.” He avoided use of the word “vouchers.’

The DeWitt County VVA is hosting Morning Coffee and Donuts, on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, for all Veterans of any era.
