CRH offering heart screening

Cuero Regional Hospital is offering a heart screening package at a reduced price during the month of February. The heart screening package consists of three tests, calcium scoring, lipid panel, and EKG. The cost of this screening offered at Cuero Regional Hospital is $175 (prepay at time of service; no insurance companies, Medicaid or Medicare will be billed). Appointments can be made throughout the month of February. Offer ends Feb. 28.

DCSO recovers $305 thousand stolen funds

DeWitt County officials hosted a press conference Monday morning to announce that an investigation through the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) successfully led to the recovery of roughly $305 thousand in county funds stolen through a cyber-crime in June. DCSO Lieutenant Bethany Hobbs said she presented probable cause evidence of the crime and bank account(s) with stolen county funds to 377th State District Judge Eli Garza last week.

Local World War II vet reflects on 95 years of life

DeWitt County residents may recognize 95-year-old Gregorio Salazar from his frequent lawn-mowing escapades atop his trusty John Deere riding mower. But there is much more to this local World War II veteran than meets the eye. Possibly the oldest World War II service member remaining in the county, Mr. Salazar’s 95 years of life demonstrate a love for family, country, and community.
