‘Landowner may sell’ unclaimed river tank

While DeWitt County commissioners were previously uncertain about how to dispose of the large unclaimed oil tank that floated down the Guadalupe River onto private property near Cuero last year, Texas Rail Road Commission staff reported the landowner did not seek assistance removing it after all.

Ellis moves up the ranks to Chief of Police

After a relatively short search process, the new Cuero chief of police has been announced. Steven Ellis has been selected to be the new Police Chief of the Cuero Police Department, which was announced at the January City of Cuero City Council meeting and where Ellis took the oath of office.

Cuero musician selected for All-State Symphonic Band

Cuero High School senior Christian “CJ” Burdick recently achieved a milestone for both his musical career and the Cuero Gobbler Band, as he was selected to perform among many of the state’s top young musicians with the Texas All-State Symphonic Band in San Antonio on Feb. 11.

Multiple wrecks keep local first responders busy

On Saturday, Jan. 14, a DPS Trooper pulled over to the shoulder to make a U-turn to pursue a traffic violator when a vehicle traveling in the same direction behind the DPS unit hit their brakes and collided with the Trooper. The trooper suffered minor injuries.

Shutterbug meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21, 7 p.m. Former contest judge and local photographer Danny Vivian will be discussing his exhibit at the Nave Museum.The March meeting is Tuesday, March 21, 7 p.m. Widely published Texas photographer Russell Graves will be giving a presentation via zoom. Meetings are held at First Baptist Church in Cuero, 408 N. Gonzales St.

2023 Nordheim FFA Stock Show

The Nordheim FFA Stock Show Board will be hosting the annual Nordheim FFA Stock Show on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Nordheim School FFA Show Barn. The livestock judging will begin at 9 a.m., students will be exhibiting nine goats, nine steers and four heifers, 11 hogs, and 13 lambs. The premium auction will begin at 2 p.m. The Food, Art, Craft, and LEGO Model Show will take place in the hallway across the street in the main building. The show will be open for public viewing at 12 noon. The Grand, Reserve, and Blue Ribbon items will sell following the animals. The LEGO Models will not sell.

Yorktown FFA Project Show scheduled for Feb. 4

The 84th Annual Yorktown FFA Project Show will be held on Saturday, Feb 4, at the Yorktown FFA Show Barn. This is a family-friendly event that will showcase Yorktown High School students’ animal and ag mechanic projects. This year, the show will include 45 animal projects consisting of steers, goats, lambs, and hogs. The market animal judging will begin at 9 a.m. and the premium auction will begin at 1 p.m.
