Ducks drop by for an afternoon visit

The awesome weather on Saturday saw all kinds of neighbors coming out to visit. I was outside doing chores when an unfamiliar sound approached. Turning to the noise, I saw two friendly ducks on my front porch.

Nordheim VFD receives grant

On Thursday March 11, ConocoPhillips held their grant distribution event at their location in Kenedy. The Nordheim Volunteer Fire Department received a greatly needed $7,000 grant. The department is extremely grateful for ConocoPhillips generosity every year to help keep them functional in every capacity and able to provide the safety to the surrounding area when the need arises.

Easter Dance at Yorktown Community Hall

The Yorktown Community Hall will hold the second dance of its 2024 Dance schedule on Saturday, March 30 with music by the Dickie Kaiser Band. Doors will open at 6 pm. with admission at $10 per person and kids 12 and under are free. The band is well known in the area, playing locally at 5D Steakhouses and 5D Taverns. Lead singer, Dickie Kaiser, of Boerne, is a prior member of the Emotions Band from 1974 - 1978. Kaiser has roots in De Witt County and his full band includes members from surrounding communities, playing regularly at Sweet Home Hall.

Judge Fowler discusses tax policies and the effects on DeWitt County

At the Commissioners Court meeting held on March 11, Judge Daryl Fowler discussed some items with regards to the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. The $60,000 appropriation in the county’s current budget (fiscal Year 2024) comports with the $60,000 of outstanding debt owed to TXDOT in the 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

Women Making History Showcase Student Winners

Contributed Report On Sunday, March 10, the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas celebrated Women’s History Month with their second annual “Women Making History” event. The salute at Sengelmann Hall began with a welcome by Schulenburg mayor Connie Koopman, and an introduction to the League of Women Voters by President Janis Richardson.
