The Yorktown Kitty Kats picked up two district wins this last week to remain undefeated and in first place in District 31-2A.

On Tuesday, Jan. 4, Yorktown hosted the Pettus Lady Eagles. The Kitty Kats came out sluggish and only led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. However, they turned up their defensive intensity and held Pettus to 11 points the rest of the game, while scoring 41 themselves, for the 55-20 win. Yorktown senior Seely Metting, the Dave Campbell’s Miss Texas Basketball Player of the Week for her performance against Three Rivers on Dec. 31, had a triple-double with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists to go along with six steals. Junior Ayana Longoria had a career-high 15 points in the win. Freshman Braleigh Dodds had four points, pulled down seven rebounds and had five steals.

The Kitty Kat JV evened its season record at 6-6 and improved to 4-0 in district play by defeating Pettus’ JV, 22-10. Freshman Brilye Campbell had six points, while junior Jasmine Hernandez, freshman Destiny Longoria, and freshman Malashia Thomas all had four.

On Friday, Jan. 7, the Kitty Kats traveled to Woodsboro to take on the Woodsboro Lady Eagles. After Yorktown jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, Woodsboro battled back to take a surprising 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
