As the calendar continues to count down to Saturday, March 26, the Friends of Nordheim, Texas, are diligently working and planning their last-minute events for a day full of festivities. President Bettie Stehling continues to accept parade entries and vendor booth applications. The group prepare to open their town with warm hospitality to 10 German visitors. Ronnie Pfeifer and Roberta Hale have been corresponding with Volker Schiek, Mayor of Nordheim/Baden-Wurtemberg/Germany. Mayor Schiek and his group are excited to come to Texas to share in the celebration of 125 years with their namesake.

The “Welcome Home” Parade will begin to check-in at 7:30 a.m. in the Parking lot of Edgar & Gladys’ Café on Highway 72. Numbers will be assigned and directions given to line-up spot. Judging will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Bands will be staged on the first block of Broadway Street. Restrooms will be available in the Nordheim Recreation Center and Broadway Bar.

At 9 a.m., the following events will be open until noon: the Nordheim Historical Museum, the Quilt Show in the Recreational Center and the vendor booths at the Nordheim Shooting Club Hall.

Patricia Garcia is looking forward to opening the celebration by tolling the St. Paul Lutheran Church bell for 125 seconds at 9:45. Vicki Cross will sing the “National Anthem,” at the announcer’s stand in front of Lupe and Patricia Garcia’s building in the middle of Third and Fourth Streets.

The Parade will begin at 10 a.m., entering Broadway at First Street and continuing to the Nordheim Shooting Club Hall.

The Shooting Club will be serving their world-famous hamburgers from 11-1:30. The Saint Paul Lutheran Church will be serving homemade vanilla ice cream under the tent between the two halls for everyone’s pleasure.
