Then in 1956 he became the first Mail Carrier for the city of Sugarland from which he retired in 1985. While working at the post office one of his favorite part time jobs was driving the afternoon school bus for 18 years. He did all of this while working 12 acres of land, raising and growing his own food with the help of his 5 children. After retiring from the post office, he returned to Cuero and then Yorktown, where he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Dedear Zielonka, and lived on Skinner Hill for 29 years.

In 2016, he returned to Sugarland to live with his son, John Dennis and wife, Connie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Vernon Cobb and Vernon W. Hess; wives, Polly and Joyce; son, Anthony Wayne; daughters, Beverly Ann and Elizabeth Dee and granddaughters, Jennifer Brandy Hesse and Brandi Nicole Henry.

He is survived by sons, James Daniel and wife Valerie and John Dennis and wife Connie; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty- two great-grandchildren and ten greatgreat grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024, 1:00 PM at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM with Deacon Leo Sharron officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include John Howland, Paul Howland, Mark Manuel, Angelo Rodriguez, Shawn Crowder and Josh Stokes.
