CHARLES “CHARLIE” BARFIELD

CHARLES “CHARLIE” BARFIELD

Charles “Charlie” Barfi eld, a cherished soul who was born on February 3, 1930, in Cuero, Texas, was called to his heavenly home on June 20, 2025, in Yoakum, Texas, following a heart attack. Charlie, as he was affectionately known, brightened the lives of all who knew him with his funny, friendly, and spirited nature.

In his early years, Charlie demonstrated a strong work ethic, becoming a skilled welder in the shipyards. When the shipyards closed, he seamlessly transitioned to become a loom fixer in the textile industry. His industrious spirit eventually led him to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning and operating a small cattle ranch in DeWitt County. Charlie’s hands were rarely still, as he was always tending to his land or fixing something that needed repair.

Charlie’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and interactions with others. He lived by the words of Jesus, “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34), and indeed, Charlie loved deeply and without reservation. His kindness and generosity of spirit were a testament to his faith and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

An avid outdoorsman, Charlie had a passion for hunting and trapping hogs, but it was fishing that truly captured his heart. He felt most at peace with a rod in his hand, by the water, where he could reflect on life’s blessing and bask in the beauty of God’s creation. The saltwater was his sanctuary, and his fishing tales were as abundant as his catch.

Charlie’s legacy is carried on by his devoted family, including his son, Charles Barfield Jr., daughter-in-law Sherry Barfield, grandson Brent Barfield, and great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Ella Barfield. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews throughout Cuero and Corpus Christi, Texas. Though his beloved wife, Vena Barfield, preceded him in death in 2001, their love story continues to be an example of enduring commitment and affection.

Charlie’s life was a living example of his favorite biblical teaching, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32). His humor, warmth, and resilient spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to Charlie, we celebrate the rich tapestry of his life and the countless hearts he touched. We find comfort in the assurance that he has found eternal peace and rest in the arms of our Lord. Charles “Charlie” Barfield’s story of faith, love, and laughter will be forever etched in our memories, a guiding light for generations to come.
