Emily married Jack Calk in 1960 and they raised four children together and these children were the joy of Emily’s life. After having four children she went to Victoria College and then graduated from Texas State University. Later, she obtained her Masters from the University of Houston. Emily taught Freshman English and Speech at Cuero High School for 23 years along with directing the One Act Play and being a sponsor for the Future Teachers Organization. She was even the Tennis Coach for two years. She married Dr. John Davis in 1991and they enjoyed many years traveling, first with the Texas Trailer Trash and then visiting many locations in Europe. After retiring from teaching she was elected to the Cuero School Board and served as member, President, and Vice President for 18 years.

Emily was a member of many organizations including Cuero Hospital Volunteers, Cuero Education Foundation, DeWitt County Historical Commission, Keep Cuero Beautiful, and Rotary. She delivered Meals on Wheels for both Rotary and Grace Episcopal Church. She enjoyed Tuesday afternoons with her Mahjong ladies and monthly luncheons with the Birthday Club.

Emily’s favorite pastime was walking her dog through the park and around the Little League Fields twice a day. You could even see her picking up trash around the lake or picking up cigarette butts in the HEB and Walmart parking lots (a job that Keep Cuero Beautiful did every year). Her dogs were Napoleon for 13 years, Josie for 12 years and Max. They were all Golden Retrievers.
