ALBERT WAYNE “BIG AL” HARTMAN

ALBERT WAYNE “BIG AL” HARTMAN

Albert Wayne “Big Al” Hartman, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Goliad, Texas, on January 23, 2026. Born in Nixon, Texas, Wayne grew up in Mound Creek and spent most of his life in Victoria and Goliad.

Wayne worked as a machinist at Union Carbide and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to always lend a hand. He proudly served as a Vietnam veteran and always showed up for those he loved. Hard-headed and big-hearted, Wayne had a teasing sense of humor and loved deeply and unconditionally. A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, he was loyal to a fault. Wayne was strong, loving, a little ornery, and absolutely unforgettable.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Hartman; daughters Janna Hartman, Margaret Adams (Shawn), Jennifer Phillips (Chris), and Kristal Gault (Alan); grandchildren Riley and Caden Phillips; and his beloved best buddy, Roper. He also leaves behind his brother, John Hartman, and sisters, Linda Jauer, Jean Walser, Lillian Lefler, Loretta Hartman, and Vickey Geffert, as well as lifelong friends Buck Hicks, Larry Hunter, and Ed Meyer who were treated like family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of life—described by Wayne as “one hell of a beerdrinking party”— will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance at: impact. ccalliance. org/AWHartman.
