A lifelong resident of the Cuero area, Bobby attended elementary school at Green Dewitt School and Cuero High School where he was a member of FFA. Bobby played rhythm guitar for the popular dancehall band “The Moods” in his late teens.After high school, Bobby worked in the woodworking and construction industry until he opened his own woodworking business in 1978. The 47-year business continues to thrive under the direction of his brother-in-law Carl Krueger, his son Keith Goebel, and his grandson Corbin Goebel.
In Bobby’s early married years, he had extra jobs as a deer hunting host/guide and a caretaker of land and cattle. He also enjoyed playing guitar and gunsmithing.
Bobby’s business affiliations included member and past President of Texas Architectural Woodwork Institute and member of Associated Builders & Contractors Inc, Texas Mid Coast Chapter. Bobby was a member of Cuero Young Farmers, and he was a Cuero Gobbler fan and Booster Club member. being a Gobbler football season ticket holder for 50 + years.
Bobby had a tremendous love of the outdoors which he shared with his sons and grandson. in travels with his wife, and with friends Bob Davis, Mike Weaver, Robbe Davis, and others on many hunting/fishing trips including 40+ years of annual West Texas hunting camping adventures. He spent enjoyable time tending to land and facilities where valued family gatherings will continue as they have for the last 125+ years.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Schorre (Jeff); sons, Kevin Goebel (Laura) and Keith Goebel; brothers, Arlen Goebel (Sally), James Goebel (Karen); sisterin- law, Rhonda Goebel; grandchildren, Kensey Janis (Steven), Kellea Clark (Douglas), Catrina Garner (Clayton), and Corbin Goebel (Mary Kate); as well as 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Janice G. Harper; and brother, Richard “Dickie” Goebel. Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Deacon Leo Sharon officiating. Honorary pallbearers include his nephews and nieces.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of South Texas, the Alzcare of Dewitt County Activities Fund, or donor’s choice.His children would like to thank the caregivers who provided him with compassionate care over this last year as he resided in care facilities. Bobby was especially blessed to have the helping hands and caring hearts of Pearl Johnson and Adrian Desilva assisting and watching over him.
