SUE COOK HALBERT
SUE COOK HALBERT

Sue moved with the family to Victoria, TX after she graduated high school in Macallen. She attended Victoria College and received her Associates Degree. She then moved to Houston where she enrolled at M.D. Anderson’s Cytology program and worked in that field for 40 years until 2005. Most of these years were spent in Austin where she worked for Clinical Pathology Laboratories and raised her daughter, Emily from 1982 until she left home In 2001, she moved to Cuero to help take care of her parents in their final years. She was a devoted daughter, sister and mother. She joined the Methodist Church in Cuero and it truly became her church family. She also found out about C.A.M.A.L. House and became a faithful volunteer there for 15 plus years. She became well known to many people of Cuero through her service at the food pantry and was affectionately known as “The Chicken Lady” and then “The Bread Lady”.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Emily Halbert of Cuero; sister, Janice Cook Wilson of Cuero; nephews, Wade (Jennifer) Wilson of Seguin, Doug (Melissa) Wilson of Victoria and Gregory (Dani) Cook of Houston; niece, Dr. Marion Cook (Brian) of Albuquerque, NM and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Don Cook and Enoch H. Cook Jr. “Jack”.
She loved horses, dogs, cats and deer and always had one if not all 4. Sue was passionate in her beliefs and would debate you on the issue. She especially loved 60’s and 70’s music.
She lived a full life, packed with adventure and fun. She especially enjoyed traveling with family and many of us have wonderful memories of those trips. She taught me how to love generously and treat all people with kindness.
Sue would want you to remember to live life your way, have a Budweiser, enjoy every minute and to always keep on dancing.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, February 22, 2026, 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Cuero.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to C.A.M.A.L. House Food pantry or First United Methodist Church.
