Sonja Bernice Bohman McKinnon
Sonja Bernice Bohman McKinnon

She cherished her husband of 54 years, Steve McKinnon, who cared for her in good times and not-so-good times and who she loved since the minute she met him. Steve and Sunny raised two daughters, Lanie and Barbara. She considered herself very fortunate to have been surrounded by them and privileged to know and to love them both.
Sunny also left behind the most beautiful, smart and amusing grandchildren: Damian McKinnon Luby and Sloane Poppy Luby who she loved dearly.
Sunny was an artist and cultivated creativity in those around her; volunteering for after- school art programs at Star of Hope Mission was some of her most meaningful work.
She loved games and puzzles, spending hours playing cards with her much-loved nieces and nephews, as well as her great nephews and nieces. She also enjoyed the beach with her family – in Rockport and more recently at Hilton Head Island.
Sunny is survived by her husband Steve McKinnon; daughter Lanie McKinnon and sonin- law Ian Brennick of New York City; and daughter Barbara McKinnon and son-in-law Kevin Luby, and grandchildren Damian and Sloane Luby of Austin; and her sisters Joan Leslie and Barbara Bohman of Cuero. She is preceded in death by her mother Bernice Bohman and her father Dr. A.J. Bohman; her sister Veronica Bohman Rushing; her nephew John Bohman Rushing; and her niece and namesake Sonya Elizabeth Leslie.
Memorial contributions in Sunny’s honor can be made to Star of Hope Mission in Houston or M.D. Anderson.
