Walter Wayne Warwas was called by God to follow the Angel, Gabriel, home to heaven, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. He was born in the Yorktown Hospital on a hot, summer day, July 18, 1959 to parents Milton Arthur and Helen Berckenhoff Warwas. He had spent the last three years living in the Yorktown Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
He was baptized into Catholic faith on July 26, 1959, his sponsors were Walter and Leona Berckenhoff. He attended Holy Cross Catholic Church, receiving First Communion on May 5, 1968 and getting confirmed on May 10, 1972. Walter attended Holy Cross Catholic School then transferred to Yorktown public school. In high school, he was active in Yorktown FFA and was a member of the senior class of 1978. Walter had many different jobs such as: farming, ranching, oil field, road construction and gate guarding.
Walter is survived by his brothers, Bernard (Joyce Ann) Warwas from Nordheim and William (Ann) Warwas of Yorktown. He is also survived by his nephews and their children Joseph (Johanna), Ellyn and Aileen; Franklyn (Gabby), Amzie and Bryce Warwas, all from Nordheim.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents, Laura Lena Riebschlaeger Berckenhoff and Henry Bernard Berckenhoff, paternal grandparents, Frieda Meta Huck and Frank Joe Warwas.
Visitation 5-7 pm with Rosary beginning at 7 pm Monday, May 18, 2026 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 10 am Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Warwas, Franklyn Warwas, Michael Gwosdz, Ben Hahn, Chester Buesing and Tracy Metting. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Ray Tam, Joseph Respondek, James Muschalek and Michael Hernandez.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and trees, memorials may be given to Remarkable Hospice, Yorktown EMS, Holy Cross Catholic Church, or donor’s choice.
