Robert Anthony Motes, affectionately known as “Bobby,” passed away on May 5, 2026, in Victoria Texas at the age of 69. He was born on October 22, 1956, in Amarillo, Texas to Robert Neil Motes and Mary Ann Motes.

As the son of an Air Force serviceman, Bobby spent much of his childhood traveling and living on military bases in Alaska, Hawaii, and throughout Texas. These experiences helped shape his resilient spirit, deep appreciation for people, and lifelong sense of adventure. He graduated from Flour Bluff High School with the Class of 1975.

Bobby devoted much of his professional life to serving others through emergency medical and fire services. He proudly served as Fire Chief in Port Aransas and worked as an EMT in Aransas Pass, Ingleside, and Rockport before advancing to the role of paramedic director. His compassion, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his community earned the respect and gratitude of countless individuals whose lives he touched throughout his career.

Later in life, Bobby and his beloved partner of 26 years, Cheryl Alves, traveled extensively across the United States together as truck drivers, creating cherished memories along the way before settling in retirement in Yorktown.

During retirement, he found great joy in woodworking, caring for his dogs, and spending time with family and friends.

Bobby is survived by his loving partner, Cheryl Alves; former wife, Leigh Motes; son, Christopher Motes; daughter, Jordan Long and her husband, Kevin Long; grandchildren, Braelyn Long and Cosima Long; sister, Robbie Cummins (Steve); and brother, Rodney Motes.

He also leaves behind his nieces Angela Cummins, Keli Brianne Hodges, and a Nephew Scot Cummins and his beloved great nephews Colby. Caleb, Jaxon and Finnley He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann Motes and Robert Neil Motes.

In accordance with Bobby’s wishes, his body was donated to University Medical Center for science and medical education. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

Bobby will be remembered for his quick wit, generous heart, steadfast commitment to helping others, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the many lives he impacted throughout his remarkable journey.
