Mr. Harvey Joe Stary, 85, of Cuero passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024. He was born June 16, 1939 in Shiner to Joe and Cecilia Sassin Stary. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School as well as Baldwin Business College. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves for eleven years. He worked as the Yoakum City Manager and then went to Circle Y Leather Industry to be the Cost Accountant for twenty-six years. He was a newspaper delivery man for the Victoria Advocate for fifty years. He retired at age sixty-two to avoid new computer technology and to enjoy the simple country life driving his buggy or tractor, feeding and spending time everyday with his 4 legged girls in the pasture.

Harvey married Ellen Parma Schley on August 8, 1987 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cuero and together, they prayed the rosary every day at 6:30 AM and 8:30 PM each day. He enjoyed taking Ellen to country western dances and dancing the night away. God was in Harvey’s life all day, every day. He loved watching Catholic News, Sports and the news on the TV. He also enjoyed going to the Cuero Gobbler football games and watching the Cleveland Browns play football.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty- seven years, Ellen; daughters, Tammy Stary Grahmann of Yoakum and Lisa Schley Lucia (Jeff) of Houston; son, Shannon Stary of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Kylie, Kaeden and Kenzie Grahmann, Jacob, Jaxson and Emily Lucia; his honorary sister, Becky Stary as well as his nieces, nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Alyen Cain Stary; his son, Bennie Wayne Stary; his parents; and his brothers, Victor, Daniel and Jimmie Stary.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 2024, 9:00 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 10:00 AM. Graveside Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Yoakum at 1:30 PM.

Pallbearers include Jacob Lucia, Jaxson Lucia, Kaeden Grahmann, Chad Stary, Jeff Jacob and Danny Dvorak.

Honorary Pallbearers include Joel Pompa, James Kremblin, Jeremy Kneese, Tony Carnes and all his nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church or School.
