Betsy devoted 28 years of her life to serving the Yorktown community at the Yorktown Post Office. She was known for her vibrant spirit and dedication to her family and friends. In addition to her work, Betsy and Marvin enjoyed many weekends traveling to various chili cook-offs. Their passion for competing in chili competitions continued for nearly three decades. In 1998, Betsy was proud to be crowned the Texas Ladies State Chili Champion.
Betsy’s legacy lives on through her beloved daughters, Leigh Ann (Toby) Kennedy of Friendswood, TX, and Denise Schulze of Yorktown, TX, as well as her six grandchildren: Mitchell Kennedy, Courtney Schulze, Aaron Saunders, Katie (Landry) Williams, Hunter Loos, and Brayden Kennedy. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Rountree of Kerrville, TX, her sister- and brother-inlaw, Carol and Normie Buehring of Tupelo, MS, as well as her niece, nephews, and cousins.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her mother- and father-inlaw Liebert and Elenora Schulze, and her brother-in-law William Rountree and niece Margaret Brazell.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 5-7 pm at Massey Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 10 am at Massey Funeral Home, with interment to follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Kennedy, Aaron Saunders, Hunter Loos, Brayden Kennedy, Gordon Rountree and Nicholas Rountree.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown EMS, Yorktown Fireman’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
