Alton L. Junker passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, just five days after celebrating his 95th birthday. He was born in Arneckeville to the late Arthur and Lena Hausman Junker on March 10, 1928. He proudly served in the United States Army and earned a World War II Victory Medal. He married Benita Stock on December 31, 1946 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cuero. He worked for Transco; a natural gas transmission company and took an early retirement at the age of 58. Upon retirement he and his beloved ‘Nita’ embarked on various travel tours and enjoyed life together. They were happily married for 67 years until her death in 2014. Alton served on the church council at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Goliad and was a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown. He enjoyed playing dominoes at the various community centers and served as treasurer for the Arneckeville Community Center. He was blessed with extraordinary good health and had many caring friends and family members including his extended family from his wife’s side. Even at 94 years old, he lived independently, drove his car to lunch with friends, to play dominoes and to church.

He is dearly loved by his only child, Roger Loyd Junker and his wife, Barbara Sue. Alton was proud of his grandchildren; granddaughter, Sr. Gianna Junker, O.P, a member of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia in Nashville, TN and grandson, Brandon Junker, COO for Providence Energy Corporation in Dallas and his wife, Margaret- the owner of Blue Feather Creative and a certified Barre3 instructor and most importantly, mother to his great-grandsons, Levi and Graham Junker - hence the name “Great-Gramps”. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Sharon and Tommy Pargmann, Gloria and Maurice ‘Dale’ Harryman; brother-in-law, Arnold Stock as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 67 years, Benita; brother, LA (Jack) and sister-inlaw, Bernice Junker; parents-in-law, Arnold F. and Emma Stock; sisters-in law, Edna Marie Stock, Dorothy Worsham and Delores Stock; Brother -in-law, Charles Worsham and several other younger extended family members.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023, 11:00 AM at Freund Funeral Home with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tim Muehlbrad officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Ricky Harryman, Shane Harryman, Cory Pargmann, Stephen Stock, Jacob Stock and Ryan Bitterly.
