Bernice Freida Nitsche Webb Hanke, 81, of Cuero passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023. She was born September 3, 1942 in Cuero to Bernhard and Alvina Rauch Nitsche. She was a member of Hermann Sons, Hochheim Prairie and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked as a waitress at the American Legion; she had a home daycare, a plant nursery and was a rural mail carrier. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery for loved ones, making flower arrangements and growing plants to give away.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Merzbacher of Cuero and Dianna (Roger) Zimmerman of Lindenau; son, Kenneth (Amy) Webb of Aransas Pass; brothers, David (Nancy) Nitsche and Larry Nitsche; grandchildren, Calvin Hess of Cuero, Kellie Merzbacher of Conroe, Gina Merzbacher of Kingsville, Travis Buch of Nordheim, Justin Buch of Yorktown, Zachary (Danielle) Webb of Yoakum and Sheela Webb of Bastrop and great grandchildren, Joslynn, Kendall and Margaret Tinsley, Mayson, Jayson and Bryndle Buch and William and Colby Webb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Calvin Webb; second husband, Erich Hanke; sister-inlaw, Susan Nitsche and niece, Heather Nitsche Culver.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2023, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Thursday, 10:00 AM at Freund Funeral Home with Rev. Marcellus Wesley officiating. Interment will follow at Westhoff Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Calvin Hess, Travis Buch, Justin Buch, Zachary Webb, Sheela Webb, Kellie Merzbacher, Gina Merzbacher and Wesley Zimmerman.

Honorary pallbearers are Jayson Buch and Mayson Buch.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
