Brenda Kay Barnett Hopkins passed away on May 13, 2020. She was born July 1, 1954 in Cuero, Texas to Arthur and Patricia Barnett. Brenda is the third child of their 12 children.
Brenda married Robert Hopkins Sr. and they had children who they loved and cherished: Lisa Barnett Gunels, Robert Hopkins Jr., Chris Hopkins Sr., Vera Hopkins, Johnal (Pondie) Hopkins, Val Hopkins, Ella Hopkins, and Ricky Hopkins, Sr.
Brenda was known for her restaurant cooking skills by many in the community.
Cooking was her passion. She was known for her famous Enchiladas and Brenda Burgers. During Turkey Fest people would come from near and far to taste some of her delicious food. Brenda was a strong and determined woman and with God on her side she could do anything.
She is survived by her daughters Lisa, Vera, Ella, and sons Robert, Chris, Johnal, Val, and Ricky. Best friend Robert Hopkins Sr., her brothers Val, and Abbie Barnett (Faye); sisters Viola Holman (Johnal), Dorothur O’Donnell, Mary Lewis (Earl), Patricia Ross, Lillian Jackson, Sabrina Campbell and Lataine Boston (Torrance); her 31 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a godson, Keith Lewis.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Leo Barnett, Sr. and Patricia Barnett; and her brothers, Gary and Arthur Jr.
Wake service will be held Sunday, May 17, from 5-7 p.m. at My Father’s House in Cuero, Texas. Funeral service will be Monday, May 18, beginning at 1 p.m. at My Father’s House with Rev. Dewayne Lewis, officiating.
