On the morning of Jan. 4, 2021 Eduvijes Salinas Cortez was called home to heaven. He departed this earth with his wife and youngest daughter at his side. He was born Oct. 1, 1947 in Choate, Karnes County TX to the late Carlos and Estela Salinas Cortez. Eduvijes was known to all as Vic, he worked in the oil field all of his working years. He made many lifelong friends through his work and throughout the Nordheim community, where he and his wife lived for 20 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Maria Sylvia Cortez, daughters Anna (David) Ochoa, Julie (Leonard) Ramirez, Pauline Cortez as well as his grandchildren Michael (Madison) Cortez, Leonardo Cortez Ramirez, David Ochoa, Amanda Ramirez, Lucas Ramirez, Aaron Martinez, Zack Martinez, his great-granddaughter Lucille Amelia Cortez, four siblings Alfredo (Rosa) Cortez, Carlos (Maria Elena) Cortez, Alma Gloria Cortez, Oscar Cortez, seven in-law siblings Hortencia (Ramon) Guardado, Dora Salinas, Diana Torrez, Susan (Servero) Salas, Guadalupe (Patricia) Garcia, Mario Garcia, Felix (Gail) Garcia, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Vic is preceded in death by his parents Carlos D. and Estela Salinas Cortez, his youngest sister Maria Alicia Cortez, both maternal and paternal grandparents, his father and mother-in-law Vidal Garcia and Amelia Rodriguez Garcia.
Pallbearers are Michael Cortez, David Ochoa, Mario Garcia, Marcus Garcia, Jonathan Pena, and Freddy Cortez. Honorary pallbearers are Aaron and Zack Martinez.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, with Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home. Procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. from Massey Funeral Home to Holy Cross Catholic church for Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8. Interment to follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Nordheim, Texas.
