Francis William Wilson II, 'Smokey' passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. He was born November 19, 1940 in San Antonio to Ann Mary Lane Wofford and Dr. Francis W. Wilson.

Smokey was a man of many talents to say the least. He proudly served in the Untied States Navy and then embarked on a career that aligned with his love for animals. He joined the Texas Animal Health Commission as a Livestock Investigator. With his keen eye for detail and unwavering determination, he tackled complex cases, ensuring the welfare and safety of the livestock community. His profound impact within the industry will be remembered for years to come. From an early age, his love for music blossomed, and he became a gifted singer and musician. His soulful voice and heartfelt melodies captivated audiences with every performance. Smokey's passion and talent were recognized when he received the MTM Entertainer of the Year award. His true happiness resided in spending time with his adored family. He cherished moments spent watching football games and classic Westerns, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.

He is survived by his sisters, Ann Mary Allen (Tommy) of La Vernia, Susan Lee Haynie (Tom) of Navasota, Gail Felker (Ross) of Marion and Kay Konecny (Joe) of Gonzales and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He will be missed by his many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Francis William Wilson III; his parents Dr. Francis W. Wilson and Ann Mary Lane Wofford; sister, Jane Wilson and brother, Jimmy M. Howard.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Peter Thaddeus officiaiting.
